What You Need to Know about Cybersecurity

“Cybersecurity” involves the protection of internet-based systems, including hardware, software and data, from cyber attacks. Effective cybersecurity will reduce the risk of cyber-attacks and protect organisations and individuals from the unauthorised exploitation of other networks and technologies.

All Internet-facing organisations are at risk of attack. Cybersecurity threats include Ransomware, Malware and Phishing.  You may ask yourself, “What are the effects of a cyberattack?”

Firstly, they can disrupt and cause considerable financial and reputational damage to even the strongest organisation.

Secondly, they are generally aimed at accessing, changing, or destroying sensitive information. Cyber-attacks may also come in the form of extorting money from users. Lastly, all these attacks undoubtedly interrupt the normal business processes.

The most effective strategy to either minimise or mitigate the effects of a cyberattack is to build-up a solid defence of cybersecurity technology. It is therefore vital that all businesses and their employees have at least a basic understanding of cybersecurity.

However, according to Cisco, a worldwide leader in IT, “Implementing effective cybersecurity measures is particularly challenging today because there are more devices than people, and attackers are becoming more innovative.”

It is therefore important for organisations to hire IT specialists. They are needed, not only to deal with cyber-attacks but also to safeguard companies in the cyber-world. Digital Forensics Global recruitment has stated that “The cybersecurity market across the globe is a multi-billion market and is expected to show a substantial growth from 2013 to 2019.”

Due to the increase in security and cyber safety matters, there has also been a recent expansion in the job market for IT Security Operations (firewalls, penetration testing and operating system hardening).

Large consulting companies and financial services firms are developing and aim to have greater cyber protection. It has definitely increased the overall demand for IT security programmers.
